BOOKING & PAYMENT

Everything you need to know before hiking the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

BEFORE THE TRAIL

Everything you need to know before hiking the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
PRE-TREK BRIEFING
Your briefing normally takes place the evening before departure, usually around 6:30 PM, either at our office or your hotel. Your guide will review the itinerary, answer questions, confirm logistics, and explain everything you need for the trek.
PASSPORT & TRAIL PERMIT
Your original passport is required for the Short Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. The passport must correspond with the information used for your booking.
PICKUP & DEPARTURE
Your journey begins with an early pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We will confirm your exact pickup time and location before departure.
ALTITUDE & ACCLIMATIZATION
Although the Short Inca Trail does not reach the extreme altitude of the Classic Inca Trail, acclimatization remains important. We recommend at least two full days in Cusco or the
Sacred Valley before the trek.
ALTITUDE SICKNESS
Altitude affects everyone differently. Headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and shortness of breath can occur. Tell your guide immediately if you feel unwell.
WEATHER
Mountain weather can change quickly. Expect sun, rain, wind, and cooler temperatures. Bring layers, rain protection, warm clothing, and sun protection.
HOTEL IN AGUAS CALIENTES
Your overnight stay gives you the opportunity to rest comfortably after the hike before visiting Machu Picchu the following morning. Hotel category depends on the confirmed
service.
MEALS
Meals included in your confirmed itinerary are freshly prepared or provided according to the logistics of the trek. Notify us in advance of any dietary requirements.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering trekking, medical expenses, emergency assistance, evacuation, delays, trip interruption, and cancellation.
TIPPING
Tipping is voluntary. Many travelers choose to tip their guide and trekking staff as a gesture of appreciation.
LOST ITEMS
Keep passports, money, electronics, and valuables secure. Always check your belongings before leaving transportation, hotels, and archaeological sites.

ARRIVING THROUGH THE SUN GATE

One of the greatest rewards of the Short Inca Trail is reaching Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, and seeing Machu Picchu for the first time.
After hiking through the cloud forest and passing through ancient Inca pathways, the landscape suddenly opens to reveal the legendary citadel below.
This is the moment when the journey becomes real.
Your Machu Picchu visit on Day 2 follows the circuit and route assigned to your entrance ticket. Because entrance schedules, circuits, and regulations may change, our team will provide the information applicable to your confirmed travel date.

THE PERU HIKERS DIFFERENCE

LOCAL ROOTS. REAL EXPERIENCE. JOURNEYS THAT CHANGE YOU.

Peru Hikers was born in Cusco, and our connection to these mountains is personal.

Our founder, Daniel Mayta, grew up in the Sacred Valley, speaks Quechua, and began his journey in tourism as an Inca Trail porter before becoming a professional guide and local tour operator.

That experience continues to shape how we operate.

Our guides don’t simply show you the trail.

They share the history, culture, mountains, and stories of the Andes.

When you walk with Peru Hikers, you’re not simply taking a shortcut to Machu Picchu. You’re experiencing a meaningful section of the ancient Inca road with people who understand the region, respect its communities, and are proud to call the Andes home.

ADVENTURE. CONNECTION. TRANSFORMATION.

That is what we want every journey to become.
