Beginning at Km 82, the trail covers approximately 44 km (27 miles) through spectacularAndean valleys, high mountain passes, cloud forest, ancient stone stairways, and remarkable archaeological sites.
Discover Patallacta, Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, and Wiñay Wayna, before reaching Machu Picchu through Inti Punku — the Sun Gate.
This is the most sought-after Inca Trail experience, so early booking is strongly recommended.
SHORT INCA TRAIL — 2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT
The Short Inca Trail begins at Km 104 and follows approximately 12 km (7.5 miles) of historic Inca pathways.
Along the route, visit Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna, then continue through the cloud forest toward Inti Punku — the Sun Gate, where your first view of Machu Picchu awaits.
It is an excellent choice for travelers who want to experience the Inca Trail while spending less time trekking and camping.
SHORT INCA TRAIL — FULL DAY
Short on time? The Full-Day Short Inca Trail offers an exciting way to experience a spectacular section of the historic Inca route in a single day.
Starting at Km 104, the journey passes through Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna before continuing toward the Sun Gate and Machu Picchu.
A valid Inca Trail authorization is required, and availability depends on the official reservation system
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?
There is no single booking window that guarantees availability. Once permits are
released, availability depends on your chosen departure date and demand.
Use these timeframes as a general planning guide:
MAY – AUGUST
6–10 months in advance
These are among the most popular trekking months. Book as early as possible.
APRIL, SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER
4–8 months in advance
Excellent trekking months, but popular dates can still sell out quickly.
NOVEMBER – JANUARY & MARCH
3–6 months in advance
Availability may sometimes be more flexible, but permits remain limited.

CLOSED
The Classic Inca Trail is traditionally closed throughout February for annual maintenance and conservation work.

WHAT INFORMATION DO I NEED TO BOOK?
To reserve an Inca Trail permit, travelers normally need to provide accurate personal
information matching the passport they will use during the trek.

No.
Inca Trail permits are personal and are issued using the traveler’s information. They cannot simply be transferred from one traveler to another.

CAN I HIKE THE INCA TRAIL WITHOUT A TOUR OPERATOR?
No.
The regulated Inca Trail is not an independent hiking route. Travelers must enter with an

DOES THE INCA TRAIL PERMIT INCLUDE MACHU PICCHU?
Your Inca Trail experience must be organized together with the appropriate Machu Picchu entrance arrangements.
The exact entrance and circuit arrangements depend on your selected Inca Trail program
and the regulations in effect for your travel date.
