Your Journey to Machu Picchu Begins
Your Machu Picchu & Huayna Picchu adventure begins with a private pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. Depending on the train schedule confirmed at the time of booking, your pick-up will be in the morning, approximately between 8:00–9:00 AM, or in the afternoon, approximately between 1:00–2:00 PM.
Your Peru Hikers private transportation will take you through the spectacular Sacred Valley toward Ollantaytambo, passing traditional villages, agricultural fields, impressive Inca terraces, and dramatic Andean mountains along the way.
After approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, you will arrive in the historic Inca town of Ollantaytambo.
Scenic Expedition Train to Aguas Calientes
At Ollantaytambo train station, board the PeruRail Expedition Train and begin your scenic journey toward Aguas Calientes.
The train follows the Urubamba River deep into the mountains. Along the way, watch the landscape transform from the high Andes into lush vegetation, towering mountains, and the cloud forest surrounding Machu Picchu.
This is more than simply transportation—it is an important part of your Machu Picchu experience.
Arrival in Aguas Calientes
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, our team will assist you with your hotel check-in.

Return to Aguas Calientes
After completing your Huayna Picchu adventure, return to the Machu Picchu entrance area and take the official shuttle bus back down to Aguas Calientes.

Sacred Valley.
Expedition Train to Ollantaytambo
In the afternoon, board the PeruRail Expedition Train for the scenic return journey along the Urubamba River toward Ollantaytambo.
Upon arrival at the train station, your private Peru Hikers vehicle and professional driver will be waiting for you.
Return to Cusco
From Ollantaytambo, continue through the spectacular Sacred Valley and back into the Andes toward Cusco.

Why is this tour 2 days instead of one?
Huayna Picchu operates with limited, timed entrance tickets and follows a different
schedule from a regular Machu Picchu visit.
Staying overnight in Aguas Calientes places you close to Machu Picchu on the morning of
your hike and creates a much more relaxed experience than traveling from Cusco on the
same day.
How far in advance should I reserve Huayna Picchu?
As early as possible.
Huayna Picchu has limited daily availability and can sell out well before regular Machu
Picchu entrance options.
If Huayna Picchu is one of the main reasons for your trip, we recommend securing this
reservation early.
What time can I leave Cusco on Day 1?
Depending on train availability, you may leave around 8:00–9:00 AM, 1:00–2:00 PM, or
later in the afternoon.

How difficult is Huayna Picchu?
The hike is Moderate to Challenging. The route includes steep stone staircases, narrow

How long does Huayna Picchu take?
